Emergency Preparedness

An accumulation of recommendations from FEMA, the American Red Cross, and other agencies around the world.  While this can be used for Y2K preparation, it is a general preparedness for any type of manmade or natural disaster.

Smoke Detector Information

The International Association of Fire Chiefs suggests that each time you change your clock, you change the battery in you smoke detector.

Heating Information
Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fires in the United States). Most heating equipment fires start as a result of misuse or improper maintenance.

Holiday Safety Tips
HOLIDAY/SEASONAL SAFETY from Christmas Trees to Fire Places and Woodstoves.

Smoking/Matches/Lighters
A comment from NFPA President George Miller, "Smoking materials cause more civilian deaths than any other source. We must teach people to handle lighters, matches, and cigarettes cautiously, especially around children."

Grill Safety Tips
Liquid petroleum (LP) gas or propane, used in gas grills, is highly flammable. Each year about 30 people are injured as a result of gas grill fires and explosions. Many of these fires and explosions occur when consumers first use a grill that has been left idle for a period of time or just after refilling and reattaching the grill's gas container.

Halloween Safety
The Mondamin Fire Department provides tips for a safe and happy Halloween.

After the Fire is Out
Recovering from a fire may take a long time and many of the things you have to do will be new to you.
